Major Sources of Johne ’s Disease Risk

Johne’s disease is an incurable bacterial disease of cattle and other ruminants. The cause of Johne’s disease is Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP).

Currently, the Irish Johne’s Control Programme (IJCP) is in place - farmers can avail of financial supports towards the cost of the testing and risk assessments.

Agri Diagnostics Ireland offers Johne’s antibody testing for beef and dairy herds using blood and milk samples.

Biosecurity is key to ensuring Johne’s disease is avoided. AHI guidelines detail the source of these risks.
